School Story:
I was always proud of Neshaminy and attended sports events and school plays – but my involvement was mostly as a spectator.
Good memories: I enjoyed Gym Nights. You didn’t have to be a star athlete, have special talents, or be part of any of the inner circles. All you needed was a desire to participate. Everyone was included. There were no cuts. I enjoyed working on decorating and participating in the exhibitions and relays. It was the most fun of every year.
Bad memories: Miss Burdick! She picked on, ridiculed, and belittled my sister and me on what seemed like a daily basis. On many occasions she sent me to the school nurse to have my fingernails clipped – she said they were too long (although I could still type very fast). On other occasions, she sent me to the nurse to have my hair brushed out. She thought it was “teased” but it was simply very thick (I wish it was as thick still). The nurse was very annoyed with having to do these ridiculous tasks. I never knew what Miss Burdick’s issue was with us – I always did my assignments and excelled in her classes in spite of her treatment. Anticipating her daily dose of nastiness caused me to stay home from school way too often.
